11 of our YR10 Sport Leaders had a huge impact on Christchurch primary school Sportsday on Thursday 19th June. With have helped lead this day from a number of years now and to keep being invited back shows how well our pupils do. Thursday was an extremely hot day so difficult conditions for everyone involved but for our students to keep the primary school children motivated and engaged throughout the day is a huge credit to them, their enthusiasm was noted by all of the staff and congratulated.
It was split into two separate competitions with the younger year groups in the morning and older ones in the afternoon but with the same format of a number of different stations first of all that looked at many different skills that our pupils demonstrated and then managed, these included football shooting, hockey dribbling and a series of sprints over hurdles and through an obstacle course. The primary school children then went onto competitive races on the track which our pupils managed fantastically well with quick transitions to keep the day moving but also congratulating and rewarding the students as they finished their participation with stickers and kind words.
A note from the Christchurch headteacher who addressed our pupils at the end of the day; “This day wouldn’t run without you, the way you are with our children and engaging them throughout is appreciated. You are fantastic pupils and Smestow should be very proud!”
The pupils withheld many of our Smestow values throughout the day and were a credit to themselves and the academy. Well done all.

Year 7 took part in an interactive assembly this morning, hosted by our Careers and Enterprise Advisor Carol Codner.
The "guess my job" assembly was aimed at challenging stereotypes and getting our pupils thinking about perceptions that we may have about people in specific roles, but also what jobs are available to us in our local area.
We met a range of employers from Wolverhampton including those involved with:
Thank you to all our visitors for your support today.

Well done to the Year 10 students who have been preparing for their GCSE mock exams which begin next week. Pupils have been revising the three themes covered so far and have been practicing the role plays at a doctor’s surgery, a cinema, in a restaurant and at a leisure centre. Pupils have also been describing photographs and recycling the key phrases that will be the most useful.

It has come to that time in the year where our next Prefects for 2025 -26 have been selected. This year we had a record 52 applicants for 25 spaces. The selection process which consisted of a written application and interview with Heads of Houses proved very hard and in the end 26 Prefects were selected. I want to take this time to thank all the Year 10’s who did apply, please know this was such a difficult decision.
Our Prefects are:
D Rana, J Oziga, A Ahmed, R Finlayson Palmer, C Omorowa, P Natey, A Kumar, S Singh, A Eshani, P Vaisvilla, V Cirocan, S Singh, Y Gaillard, K Peterside, W Hussain, P Bassi, H Davies, T Blundell, F Zirta Gimben, S Khan, S De Souza, J Pal, L Osborne, H Stanley, E Randhawa and A L Steadman.
Last week our prefects completed their 2 days training. Day 1 consisted of team building skills at Challenge Academy, where pupils faced activity courses blindfolded with all their trust in their partner, skills of working together and of course the high ropes. Day 2 was in school training with Senior Leadership Team and Head of Houses including Level 1 safeguarding, mentoring training and electing the senior Prefects. By the time this publishes pupils will know but a massive congratulations to J Oziga, A Eshani and P Vaisvilla for being voted by their peers to be the Head Prefects at Smestow Academy.
